CHARTS Patch 136: July 2022: ICD 10 Update

This patch includes:

1) an updated list of ICD 10 codes effective October 2022, and

2) the availability of a CHARTS interface with DailyPay.

ICD 10 Diagnosis Codes Update

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently released the 2023 version of the ICD-10-CM files. These recently released files contain information on the ICD-10-CM coding updates for the 2023 fiscal year.  These 2023 ICD-10-CM codes are to be used for billing for discharges occurring from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023, and for patient encounters occurring from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023.

This release incorporates these new ICD 10 diagnosis codes into the CHARTS ICD 10 diagnosis tables.

CMS also recently updated their edits to reject ICD 10 codes that are ‘unspecified’. If an unspecified ICD 10 code is reported on a Medicare claim, you would be required to use the Remarks section to explain why the unspecified ICD 10 code needed to be used. To simplify matters we will be eliminating any unspecified ICD 10 codes from Medicare claims once this update has been loaded. For additional details please see MLM Matters #MM12471.

After loading this update, it is recommended that facilities run a LIST RESIDENT ICD10 CODES REPORT – “LISTICD” [CC, 5, 7] with ‘Print Only Currently Invalid Diagnosis’ set to ‘Y’ to determine which diagnosis codes currently on file will become invalid in October 2022.

DailyPay Interface

DailyPay utilizes an on-demand pay system that allows a facility to provide their employees with access to a portion of their base wages in advance of payday.

The DailyPay interface is an upgrade to your existing payroll system that will allow your staff to access some of their pay faster than they would otherwise be able to. The pay amount that employees have access to is based on approved hours – meaning hours already worked, but which have not yet been paid out.

If you are interested in incorporating this feature into your payroll system you can contact RHS or DailyPay directly https://www.dailypay.com/.

There are licensing charges associated with using the DailyPay interface.

The interface is available for facilities using CHARTS payroll or the Visual Payroll module.
